A Phoenix first as we tackle the music of Gustav Mahler, who is known for his epic symphonic journeys. For this program we pair Mahler’s most gentle work, his 4th symphony (arranged for small ensemble by Iain Farrington), with a short work by Franz Schreker, a highly underrated contemporary of Mahler’s whose career was cut short by the rise of the Nazis. This concert is a journey back to German romanticism at its height, featuring lush, emotional, and inspiring music.
